This is how Commercial Driver School we will keep everyone safe
Commercial Driver School (CDS) has been working with the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board (WTECB) to implement standard vocational CDC and OSHA guidelines to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus for our instructors, staff and students.
We have further enhanced safety requirements to meet and exceed health and safety guidelines. Following are the actions we are taking every day:
- Online/remote learning for our first 40-hours of theory training has already proven to be a successful alternative to our onsite classroom. This has been approved by the WTECB and the VA.
- Backing exercises have only one student in the truck and an instructor in the yard at a safe distance from the vehicle. The vehicle is sanitized after each use and windows remain open.
- Field training is now one on one. We employ face masks, keep windows open, and sanitize the vehicle’s touch surfaces after each use and mandate hand washing.
- A temperature of over 100.4 degrees will result in a “go home” order. Logs will be kept on each instructor, staff and student arrival temperature, time, and date.
- When cleared to train for the day they will wear an “OK” sticker on their shirt that will be different everyday day. These logs will be preserved in the same manner our personnel and student files are maintained.
The transportation industry is essential in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by meeting increasing workforce demand locally here in Washington State to deliver food, medical supplies and emergency aid. Commercial Driver School has a critical role in Washington’s supply chain.
With unemployment numbers exceeding the great recession, there has never been a better time to join the essential transportation workforce.
Demand exceeds supply; that raises two very important conditions: 1) pay and benefits, even signing bonuses in some cases, are at an all-time high offering family wage job opportunities, and 2) there are plenty of local jobs available, so you can be home every night.
