Course Overview
Commercial Driver School’s Hazmat Course only requires 16 hours of training. Our course consists of general awareness, familiarization and the fundamentals of the hazardous materials transportation process. Our course fulfills all of the requirements established by Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).
Utilizing the OHSA Hazards Communication Standards (HCS), this course will enable truck drivers to recognize hazardous materials as well as provide them with the basic knowledge of how to perform as a driver carrying hazardous materials.

Our 16-hour course is divided into two 8-hour classes. During the first day of class, our instructor will go through different examples of products that are considered hazmat as well as hazmat classifications.
During the second day, we have a “hands on training method” that enables our students to put into practice everything they learned during the first day of class.
At Commercial Driver School, students will learn about:
- Different kinds of hazards spills and classifications
- Required shipping paperwork, packaging and labeling
- The proper way to secure the area of a small-scale spill
- How to recognize what are you transporting
- How to segregate hazardous material when necessary
- The loading process and emergency response
Commercial Driver School offers this Hazmat certification course at all four of our conveniently located campuses in Auburn, Lacey, Lakewood and Port Orchard. Our course and curriculum are based on and exceed both Federal and State standards for a HazMat Certification.
